Health & Counseling Services

Wellness Center

Feeling stressed? Need a flu shot? All Immaculata students can visit the Wellness Center for confidential counseling and health care, as well as prevention and educational programming.

With a staff of counselors who are available during business hours, and on-call by contacting Campus Safety, students have access to professional help when they need it most. Students can also visit with a doctor or nurse by scheduling an appointment.

For students living on campus, we strongly encourage you to have a small first aid kit. Suggested items to include in your kit: bandages, antibiotic ointment, decongestant, cough drops, a thermometer and ibuprofen. Student Health Services does have some over-the-counter medications but is not open 24 hours a day.

Current students can find more information and hours of operation on the Student Life page in MyIU.

Immunization Policy

Pennsylvania state law requires that students who attend a Pennsylvania college or university must provide documentation of certain immunizations endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College Health Association. Students must submit certification of these immunizations prior to the start of classes.

Health Insurance

The University strongly recommends that all residential students carry their own health insurance. IU does not offer student health insurance plans, so if you do not have insurance, please go to www.healthcare.gov for student health insurance assistance. If you are not a Pennsylvania resident, please check with your provider prior to coming to campus to make sure your insurance is accepted out of state.

Students who receive health or counseling services at Immaculata are the controllers of their health information. Except in life-threatening situations or in emergencies as prescribed by law, Immaculata’s nurses, doctors, and counselors cannot share information with parents, friends, professors, or deans without students’ written permission.
